Warts and Corns
Warts
Warts are small, rough growths that commonly appear on the hands, fingers, feet, and other areas of the skin. They vary in size and texture, with some having a rough or smooth surface. Warts can manifest as common warts, plantar warts (found on the soles of the feet), flat warts, and genital warts.
Causes: Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters the skin through tiny cuts or abrasions. These growths are contagious and can spread through direct contact or touching surfaces contaminated with the virus.
Treatment: While some warts may resolve on their own over time, treatment options include:
- Application Medications: Applying topical medications containing salicylic acid helps dissolve warts gradually.
- Cryotherapy: Liquid nitrogen is used to freeze and remove the wart.
- Radiofrequency Ablation: Warts can be burned off using an electric current with chemical cauterisation of the base.
- Laser Treatment: Laser therapy targets and eliminates the wart in a focussed and targeted manner, ensuring the least chances of recurrence.
- Surgical Removal: In certain cases, surgical excision may be necessary.
